Teaching Philosophy

Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
- Benjamin Franklin
This quote by Benjamin Franklin embodies how I view teaching and learning. I do my best in every module to allow my students the opportunity to apply and practice the skills and concepts discussed in class. Additionally, having students work on “real world” assignments for themselves or clients increases their motivations and investments in the projects.
I understand that my students possess a variety of backgrounds, skillsets, and knowledge, so I do my best to meet the specialized needs of each student and recognize individual progress throughout the course. I am also cognizant of the many learning styles in my classroom and do my best to present concepts in a variety of ways to ensure each student has the opportunity to succeed.
Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its entire life believing it is stupid.
- Albert Einstein
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
- Tim Notke
I treat my students with professionalism and respect, and I model how I want them to behave in my class. Attendance, timeliness, and professional communication are consistently rewarded and emphasized in my classroom. I believe in hard work and encourage my students to reflect upon the process of achieving a goal rather than the goal alone.
